The Difference Between Used, Refurbished, Reconditioned, and Remounted Ambulances
Finding the Right Ambulance
If you’re in the market for a new ambulance, then you may notice many terms like used, refurbished, reconditioned, and remounted. What does each mean, and should it influence which one you buy? At SIV Ambulances, we offer various used ambulances that are ready to be deployed. We want to help you make the right decision. Here’s what each term means and how it might affect you.
Used Ambulances
Like used cars or other used items, this typically means that the vehicle was used before by someone else. Depending on the person selling used ambulances, it may be in the same condition that it was in when the original owner sold it. A few repairs or maintenance services may have been performed on it, but it’s typically sold in a similar state as it was bought in.
This can be beneficial for certain buyers because you can often buy used vehicles cheaper than new counterparts. They may also be cheaper than refurbished, reconditioned, or remounted ambulances. It’s also a good idea to have an experienced mechanic on hand to take care of any repairs or maintenance needs that the used vehicle requires before deploying it.
Refurbished Ambulances
In regards to refurbished, these are ambulances that didn’t see that much use. They typically just need to be cleaned up before being ready to be used again. They’re thoroughly investigated, tested, and then prepared for selling.
In the event that something is damaged, the damage is typically able to be repaired because the rest of the parts are still new.
Refurbished ambulances are likely going to be a bit more expensive than their counterparts aside from reconditioned ambulances. This is because you’re almost buying a new ambulance.
Reconditioned Ambulances
Reconditioned, on the other hand, involves the same processes as refurbished except for one detail. If something is damaged, the technicians don’t repair it. They replace it with new parts. This can help extend the life of the ambulance. Once it’s deemed ready to be sold, it’s thoroughly tested to ensure it works at peak order.
Sometimes a warranty is included with reconditioned ambulances. Because parts are replaced, they’re a bit more expensive than refurbished ambulances.
Remounted Ambulances
A remounted ambulance is when the cab of an ambulance is removed and placed on a new vehicle mount. This might mean a new engine, tires, and the rest of the machinery involved with a vehicle. Remounting helps save money and materials because it removes the healthy cab of an ambulance and puts it on a new frame.
